The Katikkiro of Buganda, Charles Peter Mayiga, has unveiled the organising committee that will oversee preparations for the 33rd coronation anniversary of Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II.
Every year on July 31, the Kingdom of Buganda commemorates the coronation of Kabaka Mutebi, who ascended the throne in 1993. This year marks 33 years since he was enthroned as the cultural leader of Buganda.
While unveiling the committee, Mayiga highlighted the significant achievements registered under the Kabaka's reign over the past three decades, describing the period as one of transformation and progress for the kingdom.
“The Kingdom has registered significant progress and achievements during the 33 years that His Majesty has been on the throne,” Mayiga said.
The Katikkiro also called upon the Kabaka's subjects, particularly the youth, to remain courageous and steadfast whenever issues affecting the kingdom arise, emphasizing that bravery and commitment are essential for Buganda's continued growth and prosperity.
“I urge the people of Buganda, especially the youth, to be courageous in defending and supporting issues that concern the kingdom. It is through such courage that Buganda will continue to prosper and regain its rightful place,” he said.
The chairperson of the organising committee, Joseph Kawuki, thanked the Kabaka for entrusting him and his team with the responsibility of coordinating the celebrations and pledged to ensure a successful event.
“We are grateful to His Majesty for the confidence he has placed in us, and we commit ourselves to fulfilling this responsibility diligently,” Kawuki said.
This year's coronation anniversary celebrations will be held at Watoto Church under the theme: “Let Us Be Courageous in Preserving Our Heritage.”
The annual event is expected to attract thousands of subjects, cultural leaders and dignitaries who will join the kingdom in celebrating the life, leadership and achievements of Kabaka Mutebi during his 33 years on the throne.
